It may give the impression that Norma Duval has done it all on television, but nothing could be further from the truth.. The ‘vedette’ is one of the 15 contestants of ‘MasterChef Celebrity 7’ and faces the culinary challenge with the illusion of a rookie, aware that the ‘talent show’ of Spanish Television means leaving her comfort zone completely.

Taking advantage of the launch of the contest at FesTVal de Vitoria 2022, on El Confi TV we have chatted with the actress, who comments on her feelings before the broadcast of the first installment. Duval speaks openly about the pressure involved in participating in a format like Shine Iberia. “I thought it was suicide,” confesses the intervieweeremembering the moment when the proposal came through Susana Uribarri.

Almost no previous experience

Norma doesn’t beat around the bush and comments that cooking isn’t exactly her forte, but for that same reason it didn’t take him long to ‘get his act together’. In addition to the previous classes that she offers the entertainment space itself for two weeks, the presenter reveals that she chose to do what many participants do during their preparation: go to friends’ restaurants to practice. Among so many culinary techniques and procedures, she “had a big mess in her head.”

“I have to confess that I did not see myself prepared to cook with time,” explains Duval in relation to, perhaps, the great handicap of ‘MasterChef’. Already in the recordings, the rush even caused a small accident: “I’m a disaster with knives and the ones from ‘MasterChef’ are very sharp. My house knives don’t cut, Bertín Osborne already told me and he was right. I had a cut that lasted me… but, even so We all ran out and went back to cooking.

“Nothing is prepared here”

According to the apprentice and as the viewer can verify edition after edition, the program is a real swing of emotions: “It is wonderful to show oneself as one is. What happens is that here sometimes it’s you and sometimes it’s not you. You bring out a part of you that you don’t know. Indeed, there is that pressure and, within that pressure, there are different ways in which you unfold.”

“You can get by crying, laughing, contributing, not contributing. In other words, many things can happen that are not prepared. Nothing is prepared here,” says Norma, who acknowledges having felt ‘small’ in front of Jordi Cruz, Samantha Vallejo-Nágera and Pepe Rodríguezthree implacable judges, each in their own way: “When you are in front of them, you think ‘what am I doing here, my God, if they are very knowledgeable’. Jordi Cruz has 8 Michelin stars. What are you going to say in front of someone like that? ?”.

We will have to wait for this season to progress to find out if Norma is one of those applicants who ‘rebel’, in a fit of anger, in the face of negative criticism from the jury. At the moment, she has already starred in some tension with Lorena Castell, with whom, by the way, he coincided a few months ago in ‘The challenge’ (Antena 3). Apparently, nothing that could not be solved, since both fixed their differences in that same first installment.

“There have been surprises and all of them positive. I think it is a very accomplished group, with all the ingredients. We all come from very different places and have very different personalities, but the whole has worked very well.”he points out, adding that he feels a special weakness for Xavier Deltell: “He has given a very emotional point to the program. That continuous smile, that good humor, passed through us all”.

Another stage on TV

That Normal Duval has always felt very close to television entertainment is no secret. After being the great star of variety programs in the 90s such as ‘Bellezas al agua’, ‘From Palma con amor’ (both broadcast on Telecinco) or ‘Noche de fiesta’ (TVE), the ‘vedette’ has found in the ‘talent shows’ a new incentive in her extensive professional career. ‘Mask Singer’, ‘The Challenge’… and now ‘MasterChef Celebrity’.

“I have never seen myself in ‘MasterChef’, until I have seen myself. I did ‘The challenge’ last year and I said ‘well, now, ‘MasterChef’. This program is much more difficult than ‘The challenge’, it would make me twenty ‘Challenges’, one after another I, because of my profession, which I’ve always sung and danced, have been very physically fit. ‘The challenge’ was in line with having to be fit, but I’m not a cook. I have never cooked. Here I had everything against me. Now I get into the kitchen, not every day, but almost. And I get excited, I feel like it. Before, I would have left this world without doing it,” says the actress.

Duval is in a really good place at work, where everything seems “new and different, having done so many things” to him on television: “It catches you at another age and you see it in a different way. If ‘MasterChef’ had caught me at 30 years old, I wouldn’t have done it. It was neither the time nor the age, but, today, it is another professional option. I have fun, I have a good time and I’m with younger people, who contribute a lot”.

In fact, it is not new that Norma has always been very good at timing. In the same talk, she highlights that she refused to present the ‘Telecupón’ more than three decades ago: “Valerio [Lazarov, entonces consejero delegado de Telecinco] offered it to me. He decided for himself that I should do it and I didn’t want to, I wasn’t old enough and it wasn’t the time to do a daily program with a lot of publicity. There were 5 minutes of program and 10 of advertising. They paid for it from the movies, but I was on another roll. Valerio got very angry with me, but then it was a success because Carmen Sevilla did it and it was a brutal success”.
