Rodionov pulls a strain in Metz

Vienna – Monday, September 19, 2022, 10:31 a.m

After his two individual victories in the Davis Cup international match against Pakistan on clay in Tulln, the change to indoor hard courts did not go as planned for Jurij Rodionov.

The 23-year-old from Lower Austria had to admit defeat to French local hero Gregoire Barrere in the first qualifying round 4:6, 7:6 (4), 2:6 and also sustained an injury in the process.

“I didn’t really get into the first set, but I caught myself and was able to improve significantly before I pulled my hip flexor at the beginning of the third set and was extremely limited in my movement,” Rodionov explains on his Facebook page.

The ÖTV-Daviscupper returns to Vienna immediately after the defeat and now wants to “take a breather at home” and recover from his injury.

The only Austrian in the main competition of the ATP 250 tournament in Metz is Dominic Thiem. Last week’s Rennes finalist will open against Frenchman Richard Gasquet. Game date is not set yet. Sky broadcasts daily live from Metz.
