In the LPR, two employees of the OSCE mission were sentenced to 13 years for "treason"

In the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, two members of the Special Monitoring Mission OSCE sentenced to 13 years in prison on charges of treason.

One of them is named Dmitry Shabanov, in the LPR he called security assistant Stakhanov Forward Patrol Base missions. According to the authorities of the LPR, in 2021-2022 he collected information about the movements of military equipment and personnel of the so-called people’s militia of the LPR and transferred them to the “CIA resident in Ukraine.”

The second convict’s name is Maksim Petrov. Approvedthat he worked as an interpreter and allegedly handed over to his “American curator”, who worked as the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission in Luhansk, materials about the 2nd Army Corps of the People’s Militia, constituting a “state secret”.

The detention by the LPR and DPR authorities of several employees of the OSCE mission for “treason” and espionage became known in April.

The OSCE Mission in Eastern Ukraine has been operating since 2014. Its official tasks were to objectively monitor the situation in the region and promote dialogue between the parties to the conflict. After the start of a full-scale war in 2022, the OSCE announced the evacuation of foreign mission staff. At the end of March 2022, the mission’s mandate was not officially extended due to Russia’s position.
