Foda-Aus in Zurich despite Cup-Aus

Zurich – Monday, September 19, 2022, 3:52 p.m

Some would think that six defeats from the last six competitive games would finally cost Franco Foda his coaching job at FC Zurich.

But despite the dramatic cup-off on Sunday against the second division team Lausanne Sport, coached by ex-Altach trainer Ludovic Magnin, the former ÖFB team boss is still firmly in the saddle.

Zurich President Ancillo Canepa strengthens the German in the “SRF” interview: “Franco Foda is not an issue. What can the coach do for it after such a game?” He addresses the circumstances of the departure. Because it was only with the very last action in regular time that Lausanne managed to equalize 2:2, in the 114th minute it was 2:3 from Zurich’s point of view.

Foda is not afraid of being kicked out, nor is he resigning himself

“He lined up correctly, he made the right substitutions,” the FCZ boss sees no misconduct on the part of his coach and even says that “the football god doesn’t mean well with us. For the third time in a row we conceded just before the end Tor. I can’t explain it. I have to have it set.”

And Foda himself? The former champion coach of Sturm Graz is not thinking of retiring either: “I was aware that it would not be easy after winning the championship, but I am still highly motivated.”

And he’s not afraid of being thrown out either: “No, it’s not about my job, it’s about the essential things. That we’ve already given away so many points in the championship and also here in the cup. Normally you get a round here further.”
