Essen: Zollverein with bitter news – "You must have guessed it long ago"

For all those who plan their leisure time on the Zollverein in meal left, there is bad news.

The popular destination in the heart of the Ruhr area has bad news. However, people in meal not be disappointed for long.

Essen: Zollverein makes a sad announcement

Until 1986 the “Eiffel Tower of the Ruhr area” was in use as an active hard coal mine. Years after the closure, UNESCO declared the Zollverein a World Heritage Site. Since then it has been a popular tourist destination. The club keeps surprising us with new activities and events.

In winter, for example, the Zollverein ice rink is a must. However, if you wanted to prove yourself on the slippery surface during the cold season, you will be disappointed.

“You must have guessed it for a long time: we have to cancel the Zollverein ice rink. The decision was not easy for us,” explains the Zollverein on Twitter. The rising energy costs are thwarting the organizers’ plans, so that the project has to be suspended this year.

Instead, people in the Ruhr area can look forward to an alternative: “The Zollverein roller skating rink will be less energy-intensive, but will be at least as much fun!”

Attraction opens in December

The attraction will open in hall five from December 17th. Sports enthusiasts will get their money’s worth there until January 8, 2023. (neb)
