Duisburg: Stadtwerke announce gas price hammer - many customers still get "grace period"

Autumn is here and also in Duisburg temperatures drop significantly. However, many consumers prefer to use a thick blanket rather than a heating controller in order to avoid high costs.

The reason for this is the exploding gas prices. Now the municipal utilities have in Duisburg another bad news for their customers.

Duisburg: The majority of customers expect sharp price increases

For a long time, there were debates about the rising electricity and gas prices in Germany. Now that the cold months are upon us, the problem is becoming real for many consumers.

Facts and information about Stadtwerke Duisburg:

  • Company was founded in 1854
  • supply the city in the Ruhr area with electricity, gas, water and district heating
  • has belonged to the DVV Duisburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH group since 1971
  • counts a four-digit number of customers
  • operates a gas power plant in Duisburg Wanheim, two water pump stations in Düsseldorf and several substations and transformer stations in Duisburg

According to “RP Online”, some Stadtwerke customers have already received a letter explaining the new costs. Overall, the prices for gas in the basic supply for existing customers will rise by a full 130 percent, while electricity will be up to 27 percent more expensive.

While the company initially only had to pass the expensive prices on to new customers, from November it will also hit long-term consumers. The only exceptions to this are customers with a long-term contract with a price guarantee. You will receive a new offer after expiry.

VAT for energy costs will be reduced

A drop in the ocean: VAT on energy prices will be reduced from October. Instead of 19 percent, only seven percent are then due.
