Before the burial
Palace releases new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
Today is the state funeral for Elizabeth II. Earlier, the palace released a new portrait of the queen.
Before the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) on September 19, the British royal family published a previously unseen photo of the queen. “It was taken this year to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, as she became the first British monarch to reach this milestone,” the caption said. Now “millions will come together to commemorate their remarkable lives”.
The Queen passed away on September 8th at her estate in Balmoral, Scotland. The photo, which has now been shared, is said to have been taken at Windsor Castle in May. The Queen smiles at the camera. She wears a blue ensemble and her signature pearl necklace and pearl earrings. The picture also shows brooches that the Queen received from her father, George VI, according to the Daily Mail. (1895-1952), was given for his 18th birthday.
Funeral service at Westminster Abbey
The state funeral will take place this Monday in London. Numerous heads of state and royals are expected to attend the funeral service at Westminster Abbey. The Queen will then be buried in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle.
