“What happened was a decision in pursuit of events that occurred the night before, where a minor had been murdered,” President Gabriel Boric said this afternoon when asked about the cancellation of the meeting with the Israeli ambassador, Gil Artzyel.
At a press point held minutes after the end of the Ecumenical Tedeum, the president considered this impasse with Israel over, but not before expressing his support for the Jewish community residing in Chile.
“We are a people that is for peace and, within the framework of this issue, we have always said that International Law, the 1967 borders, must be respected. I want to take advantage of this instance to express to the Jewish community, that I read the declaration they issued, that they know that like any person who live in our country, no one will ever be persecuted or intimidated or for their ideas, worldviews, except, of course, that they break the law, “he said.
Likewise, Boric advanced part of the activities that he will carry out this week during his visit to the United Nations, which include meetings with investors, accompanied by the Minister of Economy, Mario Marcel; coordination prior to participation in the COP, in conjunction with the Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas; and a tribute for the fiftieth anniversary of Salvador Allende’s speech at the UN, where the Minister of Defense, Maya Fernández, will participate.
However, the President mentioned that “the world is very expectant regarding the process that Chile has experienced in recent times and the process that is still ongoing. Therefore, what I intend to do in the United Nations is to give an account of what moment we are in, the result of the plebiscite and the constituent process. I believe that it is important to take responsibility for the decision of the people of Chile also before the international communitytell how the process continues, how are the conversations”.
Regarding his participation in the Ecumenical Tedeum, the president urged to “respect the opinions of those who think differently”, and took the opportunity to leave a message to the citizens for National Holidays.
“For me, as President of the Republic, living in the institutions of the Republic is a tremendous pride, a tremendous honor, and let there be no doubt that from the Government we are going to do our best to improve the quality of life of Chileanswith the priority placed where the people have placed the priorities, greater justice, equality, security, facing the consequences of the rise in the cost of living, which we know has many families distressed, “he said.
