Luis Camerainfectologist and former adviser to the National governmentstated that the coronavirus as a pandemic it is practically exhausted and is on the way to becoming an endemic disease. However, he maintained that the entire population must undergo an annual vaccination plan so that there are no outbreaks of contagion with new variants that could collapse the health system.

“The pandemic is practically exhausted and since March I said that it was exhausting itself. We are moving to the endemic form of the disease and there are no doubts. I would tell you that 9 out of 10 people have been touched by the virus and more than the number of vaccinated people we are in a kind of hybrid immunity, ”Cámera commented in an interview for Rivadavia radio.

“We are going to have small outbreaks of contagion, but those big waves have already disappeared and in the rest of Europe we see the same thing happening,” explained the medical advisor to the Presidency, who played a leading role at the table of scientists who helped trace the national health strategies throughout 2020.

“I think that it is very likely that we will go to a vaccination plan annual because it gives the feeling that the virus is staying and continues to make new variants that can somewhat evade vaccines. It is something comparable to the flu, because one has to be vaccinated every year. The truth is that bivalent vaccines are going to be bought, which are the ones that can best immunize against Omicron,” said Cámera.

“The benefit of previous vaccines has been widely demonstrated and we have been able to control the virus, we could not eliminate it, that is why we are in an endemic stage. There is a lot of data, a little discordant, from different countries that says that 40% of people have some symptoms after having suffered from COVID. Protracted or persistent coronavirus in our national experience should not be more than 15%,” he concluded.
