Like hundreds of other Internet users, helpless witnesses of the ravages of fire that have been destroying the Gironde for months, Pascal Obispo holds up his photo which says a lot about the disaster that is raging in this magnificent region. Using the words of Francis Cabrel in the caption: #bassinarcachon #today #fire #encoreetencore – Is this world serious?
A major fire is indeed underway in the town of Arès, near the Bassin d’Arcachon. Expressly sent to the scene, two Canadair, a Dash and two water bomber helicopters are currently fighting the flames. It was around 1:30 p.m., this Sunday, September 18, that the fire broke out. Many Internet users, like the singer Pascal Obispo, have also posted large plumes of smoke visible from the beaches. According to the newspaper “Sud Ouest”, the firefighters fear that the fire will spread, carried by the sea winds.
Thousands of hectares of forests gone up in smoke
For the time being, three main roads have been blocked as well as a cycle path. The circumstances surrounding this fire which has already ravaged 70 hectares remain unknown. An ecological disaster for the Gironde which was barely recovering from the Saumos fire, finally set on Thursday, September 15, and which destroyed thousands of hectares of forest. Firefighters are still keeping the department on alert level 3.
An obvious heartbreak for the artist of “Bird Island” who sees his earthly paradise go up in smoke…
“There it’s finished !” Pascal Obispo moves his fans!
