The Ukrainian news agency UNIAN has accused the European television channel Euronews of adopting a pro-Russian stance in its coverage of events in Ukraine. Euronews did not comment on the allegations.
The Ukrainian news agency UNIAN (for Ukrainian Independent Information Agency) has the TV channel blocked in Russia euronews accused of “pro-Russian propaganda” regarding its coverage of events in Ukraine. In the relevant article by UNIAN it was said:
“Euronews continues to serve the purposes of Kremlin propaganda: the choice of materials, the texts and the general attitude of the Russian-language editorial team appear not only partisan but openly pro-Russian.”
In particular, the Ukrainian news agency expressed displeasure that euronews reported about the danger of shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which could lead to a nuclear catastrophe.
In addition, the authors of the article on the answer of the euronewsmanagement outraged Ukraine’s State Television and Radio Agency, which previously accused the channel of promoting “Russian narratives”. At the time, the channel’s European editorial team stated that “providing audiences with objective, unbiased news is the goal of euronews in all its language editions was and remains”. Euronews has not yet commented on the allegations.
This is not the first time that Ukrainian media and politicians have expressed their dissatisfaction with the European media’s coverage of events in Ukraine. In August, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko stated that the Deutsche Welle spread “Russian propaganda news”.
In early August, the international human rights organization Amnesty International was criticized in Kyiv for publishing a report on Ukraine’s violations of humanitarian law. The authors concluded that the tactics of the Ukrainian armed forces endanger civilians and violate the laws of war.
Earlier, British journalist Rod Liddle wrote in an article for the newspaper TheTimes accused the Western media of deliberately concealing the truth about Russia’s great successes in the special operation in Ukraine. According to the author of the article, foreign news agencies try to portray the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces as greater than reality, while reporting great achievements by the Russian military “much more modestly”.
