You are currently viewing The electric car market is filling up with expensive cars. Spain prefers one of 20,000 euros

The rise in price of car market it is not just a perception. The semiconductor crisis and the Ukraine War have broken the supply chain to such an extent that brands have had to choose, prioritizing the most profitable models.

Not only that. For now, electric cars are still more expensive than their sister combustion vehicles. And neither will the mandatory ADAS systems that, in less than two years, will be completely mandatory, regardless of when the vehicle has been homologated.

It is not surprising, therefore, that the electric car market has been filled with vehicles that initially represent a overrun. However, the month of July points to another trend in Spain: we prefer cheap cars.

Better, 20,000 euros

Although the best-selling electric car so far this year in Spain is still the Tesla Model 3, if we take a look at the private channel we can see how the price of the best-selling models drops significantly.

In fact, the best selling electric car on this channel last July was the Dacia Spring, an urban SUV that, in its configurator, starts at 20,205 euros but to which the Moves III Plan discount can be applied, further reducing its price. Our colleague Héctor Ares was convinced by the test of what is the cheapest electric car in our country.

And if we look further down the list, the trend continues, although prices are higher. Rivaling the Dacia Spring, the Citroën ë-C4 has been the best-selling electric car in Spain in July 2022. If we filter through the private channel, it is in second position, but almost on a par with the Spring.

The Citroën ë-C4 part of the 34,630 euros, but the discounts of the Moves III Plan can also be applied. Some aid that the Hyundai Kona (third classified) can also avail of, which has a price of 36,350 euros and is also on the list of the cheapest electric cars with the greatest autonomy on the market.

Although the Spanish electric car market continues to bet on more affordable vehicles (the Kia Niro and the Fiat 500e are also among the top five), delivery times seem to be making a difference, since buying a Tesla Model 3 can take half a year waiting and skipping the waiting list has a cost of up to 11,000 euros.
