Silverstone – Saturday 06/08/2022 16:04
Johann Zarco (Pramac-Ducati) took pole position with a time of 1:57.767 minutes and set a new lap record in qualifying for the British GP of the motorcycle world championship.
The Frenchman beats Aprilia rider Maverick Vinales (+0.098) and Ducati colleague Jack Miller (+0.164) in the battle for the starting order. In the second row are Yamaha pilot Fabio Quartararo (4th / +0.171), “Pecco” Bagnaia (5th / +0.194) and Aleix Espargaro (6th / +0.199).
The story of the day, however, writes the qualifying sixth Espargaro. Because the Spaniard falls heavily in the fourth training session, his participation in qualifying remains questionable for a long time. In pain, however, the Aprilia rider is the first MotoGP rider ever to do a 57 lap on the Silverstone track, and in the end he rewards himself for his effort with a start from the second row.
KTM fails in first qualification
In Silverstone, the Mattinghofen-based manufacturer experienced a qualifying session to forget. All four KTM riders fail in the first segment, in which the two fastest riders buy the ticket for the second qualifying round.
Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull-KTM) still has the ticket in his hand until shortly before the end, but Marco Bezzecchi (VR46-Ducati) takes it from him. Oliveira teammate Brad Binder and Tech3 drivers Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner are also looking through the tube after the first qualifying session.
Along with Bezzecchi, Enea Bastianini (Gresini-Ducati) moves up in Q2.
