The Lefortovo Court of Moscow arrested in absentia the founder and editor-in-chief of the publication The Insider Romana Dobrokhotovawrites “Mediazona”.

How reported Then24, in the press service of the court, asked the FSB to arrest the journalist in absentia as part of a criminal case on illegal border crossing. In this case, Dobrokhotov has already been put on the international wanted list, the press service specified.

FSB reportedthat Dobrokhotov became a defendant in the case of illegal border crossing at the end of September 2021. According to investigators, a month before, the journalist illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation “in the direction of Ukraine with the mediation of other persons.”

Dobrokhotov then confirmed his departure from Russia and stated that he had every right to leave the country: “When the FSB officers knocked out the door of my apartment, took away computers and telephones, it became clear that they would not let me work from the country. They themselves illegally took away my passports, and now they are sewing a criminal case – that I did not use the foreign passport when I left.

In July 2021, law enforcement officers conducted searches at the home of Roman Dobrokhotov and his parents, during which they seized the foreign passport and equipment of the journalist.

The searches, according to The Insider, took place as part of a libel case initiated at the request of a blogger from the Netherlands, Max van der Werff. In October 2021, the court ordered Dobrokhotov to refute the information he published about van der Werff’s collaboration with the GRU and pay him 156,000 rubles in compensation.

In July 2022, an administrative case was opened against Dobrokhotov about “discrediting” the Russian army.

The Insider was declared a “foreign agent” in July last year, Dobrokhotov personally – in April this year. In July, The Insider was listed as an “undesirable” organization in Russia.
