Olympic champion in the relay Veronika Stepanova said that she was interested in changing her citizenship.
Recall that Russian skiers are prohibited from participating in competitions under the auspices of FIS.
“In early March, there was a preliminary sounding regarding my interest in changing sports citizenship.
By that time, there was an opinion that I was some kind of new kind of Russian athlete. More precisely, it didn’t work out, but they did.
I was glad to disappoint everyone who believed in it! In–First, I share, to put it mildly, not all the values - and since then I have spoken quite directly about this. In–secondly, I owe my career to dozens of people in my homeland, who are now waiting for me to return, victories. AT–third, I’m a little better than many athletes (at least in my sport) had a chance to try on life and career abroad, ”Match TV quotes Stepanova as saying.
We add that 21-year-old Stepanova made her debut at the World Cup in cross-country skiing in March last year. In December, the Russian women’s team, where Veronika was the finisher, won the relay for the first time since 2004.
After that, Stepanova was left on the fourth stage of the relay for the Olympic race, as a result, the Russian team won the gold medal, beating the German skiers at the finish line.
In addition to Stepanova, Russia was represented by Yulia Stupak, Natalya Nepryaeva and Tatyana Sorina.
