Russian citizen Alexander Vinnik, accused of fraud on the Internet, was transported from Greece to the United States. This was reported to RIA Novosti by members of the Vinnik family.

According to them, the man was taken first to Boston, from where he was given a call home, and then transported to San Francisco. “Everything happened and was framed as a kidnapping,” the family added.

Vinnik’s transportation to the USA RIA Novosti confirmed his French lawyer Frederic Belo.

Update. Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington reportedthat the United States notified diplomats of Vinnik’s arrest.

Oleksandr Vinnik was detained in Greece in 2017. The arrest was made at the request of the United States, where Vinnik is suspected of laundering at least four billion dollars through the VTS-e cryptocurrency exchange, which no longer exists. Vinnik threatens up to 50 years in prison in the US.

The extradition of Vinnik, in addition to the United States, was sought by France and Russia (in his homeland he is accused of fraud). In January 2020, Vinnik, who stated that he wanted to be extradited to Russia, was extradited to France. There, he was sentenced to five years in prison, found guilty of creating the Locky malware.

August 4, 2022 court in Paris approved US request to withdraw Vinnik’s extradition request and end the case against him in France. Lawyer Frederic Belo explainedthat in this way the Americans will achieve the return of Vinnik to Greece, from where he will be extradited to the United States more quickly. On the evening of August 4, Vinnik was transported to Greece. After arriving in the country, he disappeared, stated his Greek lawyer, Zoe Constantopoulou.
