The President of the Transition, HE Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, Head of State, granted an audience, this Friday, August 5, 2022, to the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), HE Hissein Brahim TAHA, in working visit to Mali.
The purpose of this visit is to deepen discussions on issues of common interest.
On leaving the audience, the Secretary General of the OIC granted an interview to the press during which he recalled that Mali is a founding member of this Organization. HE Hissein Brahim TAHA therefore indicated that because of all the problems experienced by Mali, the Organization wanted to come and express its solidarity with this country, which is facing security and economic difficulties.
According to the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, it was a duty for the Organization “to come and greet HE the President of the Transition and tell him how much the Organization is committed to peace, stability and development “. On the development side, he explained that the discussions focused on “how to provide effective support to Mali and the other countries of the Organization”.
In his reading of the Malian situation, HE Hissein Brahim TAHA specified that Mali “is attacked and we believe that it has the right to defend itself and that it can defend itself. As an OCI, we provide support to this brotherly, friendly and founding member country”.
Despite all these difficulties, he said, the OIC has always stood by Mali’s side and can always do what it has always done. In addition to the presence of the Islamic bank, the Organization can open several other projects in this country, such as road construction, support for health and education.
