Vincent Vanasch puts shoulders under hockey camp: "It really gives me a boost"

Will the new Vincent “The Wall” Vanasch (34) be molded by the top goalkeeper of the Red Lions himself? Vanasch teaches some 50 young lads the tricks of the trade these days.

“It is wonderful that I can give my experience to these children”, says an enthusiastic Vanasch during the summer camp.

“I’m always here during these three days from morning to evening and I give the training sessions. That’s great. I’m not just here for an autograph session and the kids can ask me anything.”

Vanasch organizes the camp during his vacation. “That is super difficult, because my program at the club and the Lions is full, but it also really gives me a boost. At the end I am a bit tired, but like all children I have a big smile.”

Vincent Vanasch sprinkles with tips. “I don’t want to stop and give nothing to this generation. I try to pass on my mentality: we work hard, but it will also be fun.”

Hockey is extremely popular and has been able to shake off its elitist image. “When I was young, there were no such initiatives. Now I can offer this.”

“And we try to break those clichés. Our national team has players from wealthy families, but also guests from Molenbeek or Evere. Like myself, because I lived in a small apartment with my sisters, brothers and parents. And I could always play hockey .”

Vanasch will therefore celebrate the first anniversary of the Olympic hockey gold in the Belgian sun among the youth. “But we have already agreed with the Lions that every 10 years we will celebrate our title over there in Tokyo,” he promises.
