Netflix has brought out the guillotine again and has decided to cancel ‘The First Death’ after the premiere of a single season. It is not that the series had great data to be a surprise, but its fans are attacking the platform harshly and arguments are not lacking.
The complaints of the fans of ‘The first death’
The most common complaint against Netflix is accusations of lesbophobia for having decided to cancel the series. there the same they forget that it was the platform itself that initially greenlit the series and not any other service or chain, but hey, don’t forget to the alleged injustice to which they allude for having renewed ‘Heartstopper’ but not ‘The first death’.
The truth is that both series had some viewing data somewhat discreet, but also that those of ‘The first death’ were significantly superior. And it is that both were 3 weeks in the Top 10 of the most watched Netflix, with ‘The first death’ adding 97.66 million hours played compared to 53.46 of ‘Heartstopper’.
Seen this way, it is easy to consider that there is an injustice, but the followers of ‘The first death’ forget two important details. The first is the duration of the episodes, because in ‘Heartstopper’ they are all around 30 minutes, while in ‘The First Death’ they range between 42 and 59 minutes. Part of the difference is there.
The other is that Netflix made it clear a long time ago -and recently reaffirmed it- that what they pay most attention to is the relationship between the cost of the series and the number of views. That ‘File 81’, one of the best series on the platform in 2022, made 129.47 million hours in those same three weeks and the platform did without it.
Most likely, ‘The First Death’ was simply too expensive for those data, while there is nothing in ‘Heartstopper’ that suggests a budget too high – and it should also be noted that it had the best reviews of a series from Netflix in a long time. But those who prefer to continue thinking about lesbophobia are free to do so.
