Rosa de Camarotti, mother of Plaza de Mayo, died this Thursday at the age of 94. On May 18, 1978, her only son Osvaldo Daniel was kidnapped, at which time she became a militant and fighter for human rights.
Her son, Osvaldo, was kidnapped from her home in Lomas de Zamora, a municipality where she lived more than 60 years ago. “They took him and a friend. They told us that they were transferring him to the city of La Plata for drugs and that we should not move for 15 minutes, but we did not wait, “he said.
On that tour, she found her companions, in what she described as “women who were in the same situation, looking for their children. And so the months went by.
The mobilizations were concentrated at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior – in charge of Albano Harguindeguy – which, at that time, was in Government House. “There, they told us that they had no news, that we should leave. And we got together opposite, in the Plaza de Mayo, “he revealed.
And he added: “As there had been a siege, a policeman came and asked us to circulate. First, we were very few, six or seven. But as the days went by, that number increased, more women who were looking for their children were added.
Due to different circumstances, the mothers of all the disappeared never got together. At that time, Rosita explained that “some did not go out for fear, they were afraid for their other children, some were from outside and did not know how to get there.”
In this sense, he remarked that everything changed when the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association was formed: “There we already learned to ask not only for our children, but for the 30,000. They were workers, students, university students, writers, artists; they did not leave anything still, every person who wanted to demonstrate or ask for their rights was kidnapped and disappeared”.
Meeting with CFK
In March of this year, the main referents of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association, including Rosita, held a meeting with Vice President Cristina Fernández Kirchner, on the eve of the National Day of Memory, Truth and Justice, which commemorates March 24 of each year.
“The meeting was very fruitful, they talked a lot, and the vice president, with the affection that characterizes her, greeted all the staff of the Casa de la Madres,” said via Twitter, after the meeting, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association that Hebe de Bonafini presides.
“On the eve of a new March 24, Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met with Hebe de Bonafini, Rosa de Camarotti, Visitación de Loyola and Carmen Arias,” they reported on the meeting at the organization’s headquarters at Hipólito Yrigoyen 1584 , in front of the Plaza del Congreso, in the city of Buenos Aires.
The meeting was held within the framework of the Week of Memory, two days after the mobilization called for March 24 in Plaza de Mayo and all the places in the country, when it was 46 years since the last civic-military coup. .
