The fact that Tim Merlier would drive for Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl next season had seemed a foregone conclusion for a while. Today, the team also officially confirmed the arrival of the Belgian champion. The 29-year-old sprinter has signed a contract with Patrick Lefevere’s team until the end of 2025.
Jan Hirt has also put his crib under a contract with Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl. The 31-year-old Czech has an agreement until the end of 2024 and comes over from Intermarché-Wanty Gobert, where he is experiencing a second youth this season, including final victory in the Tour of Oman.
Hirt also impressed in the Giro. The Czech placed 6th in the general classification and impressed with a stage win in the mountain stage to Aprica. With the arrival of Hirt, the climbing core of the team around Remco Evenepoel will be a bit extra upholstered.
Finally, Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl has also secured the services of Casper Pedersen. The 26-year-old Dane makes the switch from Team DSM and signed a contract for 2 years. Pedersen, who won Paris-Tours in 2020, will get a place in the sprint train for Tim Merlier.
We are very happy that we have been able to attract these 3 quality riders”, says Patrick Lefevere. “It is no secret that I have a lot of admiration for Tim Merlier and it is great that we have the two Belgian champion jerseys (besides Merlier also Evenpoel as national time trial champion). , ed.) in our squad.”
“Casper Pedersen has already impressed me. He can look up to his compatriot Michael Mørkøv, from whom he can learn the tricks of the trade.”
“We also attract a climbing talent with Jan Hirt. He has been riding strong for several years, we have also seen that in the past Giro. He has the talent to achieve results himself, but is also a rider who can figure himself out for the squad.”
“All three are very strong riders, their attitude will fit perfectly within the Wolfpack philosophy. I look forward to working with them.”
