Nicaragua.- A lightning strike killed a man and left six others injured. in northwestern Nicaragua.
The lightning was caused by the passage of tropical wave number 21, according to local authorities. The event occurred on Tuesday afternoon in a rural area of the municipality of El Viejo, 141 kilometers northwest of Managua, according to information from the Legal Medicine Institute.
The victim was identified as Yermaen Corrales Beltrán, a 42-year-old workerwho died after receiving the electric shock while protecting himself from the rain with his co-workers, an official from the Institute of Legal Medicine told government media.
As for the survivors, workers at a shrimp farmwere transferred to a medical center in the municipality of El Viejo, with injuries of different levels, but none is at risk of losing their lives.
The municipality in which the tragedy occurred is part of the department of Chinandega, which is characterized by its extensive plains, a place with a warm environment in Nicaragua, however due to the conditions they are conducive to the appearance of electric shocks.
It should be noted that lightning deaths are common in Nicaraguaespecially between the months of May and November, at the humid time of the year.
