The Ministry of Health of Guatemala has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in a local resident.

“The National Health Laboratory has announced the confirmation of the first case of monkeypox reported in the country,” the statement said.

According to the Ministry of Health, the virus was detected in a 31-year-old resident of the city of Guatemala. Another suspicious case has been ruled out.

Earlier, the Cypriot Ministry of Health announced the discovery of the first case of monkeypox on the island.

In July, Doctor of Medical Sciences Elena Malinnikova, Head of the Department of Virology at the Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education, in an interview with Nation News commented on the monkeypox situation.
