USA.- Years before they were together on the big screen, Christina Ricci learned an important lesson from Johnny Depp. The 42-year-old celebrity recently spoke about how she discovered “what homosexuality was.” She commented that the 59-year-old actor told her when she was nine years old while she was recording Mermaids from 1990 next to cher and Johnny’s then-girlfriend, Winona Ryder.
Something was going on on set and someone wasn’t being nice to someone else. And they said, ‘Oh, well, it could be homophobic,'” Ricci told Andy Cohen during a phone call for his SiriusXM show this week. “And then I said, ‘Well, I don’t get what that is.'”
And he added:
And I was in Winona’s trailer and she said, ‘I don’t know how [explicar]’. So he put me on the phone with Johnny, and Johnny explained it to me.”
According to Ricci, Johnny explained it to him very simply and “very naturally”. “He was like, ‘That’s when a man wants to have sex with a man and when a woman wants to have sex with a woman.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, he’s fine,'” he said.
I love that Winona Ryder had to get you on the phone with Johnny Depp to get the story that he couldn’t spit it out somehow, or, I mean, you’ve got Cher in the next trailer,” Cohen said. “I know, we should have run over there,” Ricci said.
Although Depp and Ricci met when she was very young, they starred Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Sleepy Hollow (1999) and The Man Who Cried (2000). The latter marked Ricci’s first intimate scene with Depp, telling ABC News in 2000: “I’ve known Johnny for a long time, he protects me like an older brother and it’s weird to think about having sex with him.”
So we know enough about each other to laugh about it. He said it was ‘like we were poking together like pigs’.”
According to Christina, who was also Johnny’s love interest in Sleepy Hollowthe decision was made at the start of production of The Man Who Wept, “that Johnny and I would never be naked because in gypsy culture women are forbidden to be naked.”
