There are situations in football from different parts of the world that generate an inexplicable commotion and surprise. The case of Robert Peric-Komsic is a clear example of this, since the Bosnian striker decided to get away from football in order to save his mother’s life.
2022 started with a complicated situation for the forward of the HNK Cibalia Vinkovci of the Croatian Second Division. His mother was in a complex moment of health that for 13 years caused him an ordeal and he did not hesitate to do what was necessary to help her. Regardless of the consequences. In March he decided to travel to Istanbul and underwent surgery where 70% of his liver was removed so that it could be transplanted to Ljiljana.
At that time, after several completely unsuccessful attempts, the doctors diagnosed that only those who were in the closest nucleus of the family were possible donors. Robert did not hesitate and underwent surgery for the woman who brought him into the world and said: “Her life was in danger, her stomach was filling with water and it was a matter of days… The moment I knew that all other options were exhausted, I packed my things and flew to Istanbul. My mission was clear, to heal my mother. Everything else was less important or completely unimportant.”
At the age of 22 he had to put his career aside, but he did not hesitate for a moment and now at 23 he is ready to play again. After several months of recovery, she continues with the treatment while he prepares to return to the courts. “All my findings are normal, the liver almost completely regenerated two months after surgery,” he said.
After having saved his mother’s life, he is ready to face a new season and concluded: “I feel very good, I am full of motivation, I am in a better mood than ever. What happened to me strengthened me and I really feel that I am ready for great things. I could play the first minutes next weekend.”
