The trial is not over yet: new details of the Depp and Hurd case

Amber Heard will never calm down. The court has already refused to initiate a criminal case against Depp, and the actress was ordered to pay him $10,000,000. The former lover of Jack Sparrow once again disagrees with the decision.

It started back in 2016, when the Depp-Heard couple decided to break up. Amber, who became famous not only for her marriage to Depp, but also for her work in the TV series Criminal Minds and the films Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Aquaman, not only did not go for an amicable divorce, but also sued Johnny accusing him of domestic violence. During the trial, Johnny’s team of lawyers presented a recording in which the actor himself appeared as the victim of domestic violence. Depp filed a defamation suit, which was granted on June 1, 2022.

It seemed that the point was set. The jury found Amber guilty of defamation and ordered to pay ex-spouse compensation in the amount of $ 10,000,000, and Depp had to pay ex-lover $ 2,000,000. Hurd categorically disagreed with the court decision and filed an appeal, which she announced the next day after the announcement of the verdict. Lawyers representing the interests of the actress assure that the court made mistakes that prevented a fair verdict. They intend to appeal the court’s decision, and Depp’s lawyers, in turn, have no doubt that the decision will remain unchanged.

Hurd’s position is rather difficult to understand. If it’s only about money, then her motivation is not entirely clear. Depp has already stated that he is ready to refuse the amount that Amber owes him, but after filing that appeal, he himself filed an appeal for the 2,000,000 that he owes her. If Heard is serious about pursuing Johnny, then her chances of success are minimal. The jury made its decision, and public opinion is on the side of the actor. There is a fairly high probability that by continuing to inflate the scandal, Hurd will drive himself into an even deeper debt hole, from which he will no longer be able to get out without outside help.
