The rector of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) Vladimir Mau, accused in the fraud case, had his preventive measure changed from house arrest to a written undertaking not to leave the country. This was reported The New Times without references to sources, as well as interlocutors BBC Russian Service and RIA News.

The preventive measure was changed at the request of the investigator, the BBC Russian Service writes, noting that article 110 The Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation provides for such a possibility.

At the same time, on August 2, in the Tverskoy Court of Moscow declaredthat the investigation asks to extend the previously chosen preventive measure for Mau. The application for an extension was scheduled for consideration on August 5.

Also, the Tverskoy Court added that the investigation asked to transfer from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest another person involved in the case in which Mau is being held, the rector of Shaninka Sergey Zuev. This application will be considered on August 3

Vladimir Mau was detained and placed under house arrest on June 30. He was charged under affairs about the embezzlement of budgetary funds of the Ministry of Education, initiated in September 2021.

July 5 RIA Novosti source informedthat Mau was charged with fictitious employment in the RANEPA of more than 10 employees of the Ministry of Education. The rector pleaded not guilty.

At the end of July in the same case was detained Vice-Rector of the RANEPA Ivan Fedotov, he was also given a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest.
