Pedro Sanchez calls "selfish" and "unsupportive" to Ayuso for rejecting his energy saving plan

The president of the Government, Pedro Sanchezhas today criticized the behavior “selfish, unilateral and unsupportive” of those who refuse to comply with the energy saving plan approved on Monday by the Council of Ministers.

Although at no time has he mentioned it by name, Sánchez alluded to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who has already announced that the government’s plan will not be applied in the region, because it implies “insecurity, darkness, poverty , sadness scares away tourism and consumption”.

In Spain the Law is complied with“, President Pedro Sánchez replied this Tuesday in Mallorca after celebrating the traditional office with King Felipe VI at the Marivent Palace, where the Royal Family has already started their vacations.

The savings plan approved by the Council of Ministers establishes maximum limits for the temperature of air conditioning (27 degrees) and heating (19 degrees), as well as the obligation to turn off shop windows and public buildings from 10 in the night, for the next 16 months.

In this regard, Sánchez has appealed to the statements of the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who does not rule out the possibility of “sudden cuts” in the supply of Russian gas to all of Europe this autumn, because “Putin is using the energy as one more weapon against Europe”, the Spanish president pointed out.

Pedro Sánchez recalled that during the pandemic, Spain benefited from “European solidarity” with the mutualisation of the Union’s debt to launch the Next Generation funds (140,000 million Spain expects to receive).

In the same way, he considered, Spain must show solidarity with the European countries most directly threatened by Putin: “We cannot ignore the anguish and uncertainties of other countries.”

The energy saving measures approved by the Government, pointed out Sánchez, “make us stronger in the face of Putin’s energy blackmail and allow us to respond to the effects of climate change that we are experiencing these days with the heat wave”. In addition, he argued, saving energy will mean that “there is more money in the pocket of citizens“.
