Moscow: Russia is in "absolute solidarity" with China

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian President’s press secretary, stated that Moscow was not sure whether Pelosi would land on the island of Taiwan or not. But he warned that their entire tour of the region and possible visit to Taipei “provokes a situation” and “causes tension.” He highlighted:

“We see that, it is registered by all countries in the world. We stand here in absolute solidarity with China. Its sensitivity on this issue is understandable. It is justified. And instead of respecting this, the US is choosing the path of confrontation. That doesn’t bode well.”

The Kremlin spokesman added that Washington’s decision was “only regrettable”.

Peskov also noted that in the event of a military conflict as a result of ongoing tensions between China and the US, the Russian army would secure Russia’s borders: “Regardless of the emergence of some provocative situations, the security of our borders along the entire border is reliably ensured by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.”

The announcement of a possible arrival of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in Taiwan has tensed the diplomatic situation enormously. Beijing stresses that it will react accordingly to Pelosi’s arrival.
