Flamengo took a huge step to define a place in the final against the winner of the Vélez-Talleres series: beat Corinthians 2-0, in São Paulo, in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. The team led by Dorival Junior, a technician hired two months ago, showed personality, balance and he was even able to extend the result in stoppage time, when Cassio stopped Victor Hugo’s shot.
Only in the first half did Timao show strength to be the protagonist, although without enough depth, prevented by the very good concentration of Flamengo, who showed the best temperament, in addition to the difference in quality of the players.
De Arrascaeta’s goal, a brilliant definition, generated controversy because prior to the shot the ball accidentally hit the right arm of his teammate Gomes. The referee Patricio Loustau decided to validate it and acted correctly in accordance with the latest change in the regulatory guideline, which established that if the contact of the ball with the hand is accidental and the player is not enlarging the volume of the body, it is not charged if it is not the footballer who scores the goal. In this case, Gomes was not the one who finished off, but the Uruguayan.
In the VAR was another Argentine, Germán Delfino, assisted by Salomé Di Iorio in the AVAR. After checking that move, they didn’t even call Loustau for consultation because the correctness of the sanction was obvious to them.

The 2 to 0 was Gabigol, in another good definition. The striker accumulated 28 goals in Libertadores, one less than Luizao, the top Brazilian scorer in the history of the competition, with goals for São Paulo, Corinthians, Gremio and Vasco da Gama, between the 1990s and 2000.
Corinthians, which had the entry of Argentine midfielder Fausto Vera in the first half (due to Maycon’s injury), had gone 21 games undefeated in its stadium, which enhances Fla’s victory (Arturo Vidal entered the final stage).
The rematch, at the Maracana, will be next Tuesday, with Fla doing very well.
