The dream burst in overtime. The German team had made it to the final at the EM 2022 – but stopped there England Germanywon 2-1 and took the trophy.
Beat in a dramatic final England Germany after extra time 2:1. But the hosts were lucky in the first round – agrees national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.
England – Germany: Denied hand penalty makes national coach stunned
It was the 26th minute when a scene erupted that heated up even after the final whistle. Germany missed the lead in the crowded penalty area. The slow motion shows: England’s Leah Williamsson saved with his arm spread on the line.
Referee Kateryna Monzul couldn’t really see the handball in the fray. But the VAR, who then checked the scene, did not react either. This caused many question marks and incomprehension not only among the viewers.
Voss-Tecklenburg: “You have to see it”
National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg was also stunned. On the ARD microphone, she was first made aware of the wrong decision, and at first she didn’t even know what it was about. When she saw the scene, she was downright shocked.

“The people who are responsible for this have to think about it,” says the national coach very clearly about the wrong decision in England against Germany, but also adds: “It’s no use harping on about a situation now.”
