David Goffin must immediately run off in Washington after defeat to Jack Sock

At Wimbledon, David Goffin showed the flashes of yesteryear again last month. The high form of our compatriot therefore promised a lot of good for the remainder of the summer, but Goffin immediately fell from his cloud in Washington on Tuesday.

With Jack Sock, Goffin met the former number 8 in the world, who after years of misery had descended to the depths of the world ranking. With his current 105th place, the American gradually came back among the people.

Goffin had an excellent start to the game and soon went through Sock’s serve twice, but our compatriot collapsed completely in the warm Washington. Sock eliminated the breaks and completely reversed the roles after a tiebreak: 6-7.

In the set it was Sock who quickly went through Goffin’s serve twice. Our compatriot fought back to 4-5 and 40-30, but did not grab the vital break chance. Sock eventually served out: 4-6.

Goffin thus begins his summer tour on a false note. With the top tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati, there will be some important appointments in the coming weeks, hopefully with more success for our compatriot.
