The Russian Supreme Court has declared the Ukrainian Azov Regiment a “terrorist organization”.

Now the activities of Azov are banned in Russia. The meeting was held behind closed doors.

The Prosecutor General’s Office filed a lawsuit in May. Subsequently, court sessions were postponed twice more at the request of the department.

Azov was formed as a volunteer battalion during the conflict in Donbass in 2014. Subsequently, it was reformatted into a regiment and became part of the regular Ukrainian army.

The Azov Regiment is a unit that is often used in Russian propaganda as a symbol of allegedly dominant neo-Nazism in Ukraine.

Several hundred Azov fighters surrendered to Russian forces in May after several weeks of defense of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. In Russia and in the self-proclaimed DPR, trials were announced against them on charges of killing civilians. At the end of July, 50 Azov fighters who were in captivity died as a result of a strike on the colony in Yelenovka.
