Annemiek van Vleuten does not win everything there is to win. The Dutch glutton miscalculated with her compatriots and the other favorites at the Tokyo Games in the summer of last year.
With a long break, Anna Kiesenhofer (31) trumped all the favourites. The Austrian drove for one season for Lotto-Soudal in 2017, but then mapped out her own trajectory without a coach or team.
The former triathlete is therefore a busy bee. Four years after graduating from the University of Cambridge, she graduated with a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Catalonia in 2016. Afterwards she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lausanne.
Kiesenhofer now wants to show himself again on the bike. She is aiming for the Vuelta, a five-day decoction (7-11 September) during the Vuelta a España.
So she becomes a professional cyclist again and she does so with the Spanish continental team Soltec.
