Surprising departure at TSV Hartberg: Donis Avdijaj leaves the Styrians with immediate effect!
The 25-year-old moves to Switzerland to FC Zurich and thus to the team of ex-ÖFB team boss Franco Foda, under whom he has already played at Sturm Graz in the past. Avdijaj has signed a contract with the reigning Swiss champions until 2025, and the parties have agreed not to disclose the fee.
The offensive player has been playing in Hartberg for eleven months and has played 23 competitive games during this time. Avdijaj scored seven goals, most recently a brace in the Bundesliga opener against Altach.
“Of course Donis’ departure hurts a lot,” says Hartberg chairman Erich Korherr. “He was in really good shape and an absolute creative player and top performer. You only get a player of his quality if you give him the opportunity to change. Now it’s happened and we can’t and don’t want to put any obstacles in Donis’ way. He was An enrichment for us and it shows once again that players who haven’t had easy times or who have great potential can play their way into the spotlight with us in peace and then move on to bigger addresses in football.”
Avdijaj claims release clause
Hartberg now wants to find “an adequate replacement” for Avdijaj “as soon as possible”.
Before leaving, he sent a message to his teammates and the fans: “After careful consideration, I decided to make use of the exit clause agreed in the contract. This step was not easy for me because I had a good time here with you and we managed to stay up in the league together. Every athlete strives to develop further and to face new challenges. Thanks to my move to Zurich, I can play internationally this season. But above all, the opportunity to be coached by Franco Foda again, made me make that decision.”
