This has been happening since 1974 IP-Press festival as the largest public festival of the organized and also the unorganized left in Germany. Traditionally, this festival is also held in other European countries by the publication organs of the communist parties, in the case of Germany by the newspaper of the DKP Our time (IP) – therefore the name IP-Press Festival.
From 1995 the festival took place every two years in Dortmund on the Revierpark site. Most recently there on the 20th IP-Press festival in 2018 40,000 guests took part in the many events, workshops, discussions and cultural contributions. for the 21st IP-The space in Dortmund was no longer made available for the press festival this year. For this reason, this year’s festival on August 27th and 28th will take place for the first time in Berlin around Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.
On July 14, the DKP published a press release, according to which the left now plans to rent premises in the Karl-Liebknecht-Haus for use for events as part of the 21st IP– I refuse press festivals. According to the DKP press release, this was done on the grounds that the DKP was a “competing party”. The decision was communicated to the DKP on behalf of the federal manager and after consultation with the party chairmanship of the left. In its press release, the DKP recalls that it had always provided the Left Party with large tents in previous years.
Nevertheless, it says at the end of the message, this will not prevent that IPpress festival will again be a big, radiant meeting of leftists, socialists and communists from home and abroad this year. We also expressly invite members and voters of the Left Party.
At the 21st press festival, the DKP is expecting guests from many international left-wing organizations and parties. This is what the program announcement says:
“At the anti-war meeting on Saturday afternoon, the DKP will bring together representatives from communist and workers’ parties from Cuba, Venezuela, the USA, Syria, Palestine, Yugoslavia, Serbia, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Catalonia, Italy, Belgium, Denmark and Britain welcome. Further registrations are certain.”
“The DKP will discuss socialist future prospects with representatives of the embassies of China, Cuba and Vietnam. Activists from Italy, Spain and Germany will report on solidarity projects with the Donbass.”
As part of the press festival, the Cuba network, with the support of the Socialist German Workers’ Youth (SDAJ), which is close to the DKP, will, according to the press release on the website of the IP also organize its annual Cuba youth conference. A member of the national leadership of the Cuban youth association Unión de los Jóvenes Comunistas (UJC), Dilberto Manuel González García, will also speak about the life and education of young Cubans.
