In the Zaporozhye region “in early autumn” will be held a referendum on joining Russia. This was stated by Vladimir Balitsky, head of the interim administration, which governs the territories under Russian control.
Updated. Later Balitsky clarifiedthat we are talking about the first decade of September.
At the end of June, the start of preparations for the referendum was announced in the interim pro-Russian administration of the Kherson region. The exact date of the vote was not named. Kherson region, unlike Zaporozhye, is almost completely controlled by Russian troops.
Meduza previously wrote that the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, as well as the occupied territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, are planned to be merged into one federal district within Russia. According to Meduza’s sources, Boris Rapoport, deputy head of the Presidential Administration’s Department for State Council Affairs, oversees the creation of the district.
Meduza also wrote that referendums could be held on a single voting day. This year it will be September 11th. According to sources, a referendum may be held in South Ossetia on the same day.
