The measure will be in force from 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and until midnight.
The terraces of the Plaza Mayor in Madrid will be dismantled starting this Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and until 12:00 a.m. due to the dinner of those attending the NATO Summit at the Royal Palace, as confirmed to EL MUNDO sources from the Security and Emergencies Area of the Madrid City Council. The establishments do not close, but their activity will be limited: only may operate and serve tables indoors.
The space of the terraces will be occupied by the vehicles of the delegations that attend this international meeting. From the City Council they affirm that it is a measure with a double function: “So that park the guest cars and for security reasons”. That does not prevent, they assure “that people circulate through the arcades”.
As of 5:00 p.m., all the furniture will be collected “and stacked inside the premises,” says the president of the Guild of Hoteliers of the Plaza Mayor, Jose Antonio Aparicio, who values this measure as “logical, due to the scope of the celebration”.
However, he acknowledges thatseven hours of work are lost on the terraceswhich accounts for most of the day’s sales”. The president of the hoteliers assures that “they accept and obey the norm” but the losses abroad cannot be forgotten.
In addition, it states that beyond the indications received “about teleworking and mobility”, at the moment Hostelera Madrid has not received “any directive that under no circumstances should restaurants and bars in the city be closed“.
