Within the framework of the international agenda, Alberto Fernández will participate virtually on Friday in the XIV Summit of Heads of State of the brics and saturday night will start the trip to Germany to join the G7 summit where he will attend as president of the Celac and will keep a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Together with the president, he will also travel Serge Massa, just as it did at the Summit of the Americas, as confirmed by the Presidency. Fernández extended the invitation to the president of the Chamber of Deputies as a gesture to decompress the tensions that cross the government coalition. The response of the leader of the Renovating Front was slow in coming because he was conditioned to the Congress agenda, but it finally arrived and will be part of the entourage.
“First, he needed to make sure that the parliamentary agenda was in order to confirm his participation,” they explained around Massa to this newspaper. “Two months ago Alberto Fernández also invited him to the tour of Europe and he couldn’t go, then they went to the Summit of the Americas and now to the G7.”
It is the first time that Argentina is invited to participate fully from the forum which brings together the seven most economically important countries in the world. Fernández will carry “the voice of the south”, as explained in Casa Rosada. “Undoubtedly, the President understands that this is the product of the policy that we have been carrying out since the war in Ukraine began and that it is, effectively, carrying out the voice of the south to all forums,” said spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti during the usual Thursday press conference.
The tone of the tour will be a continuation of his last interventions abroad. Fernandez focused on the harmful effects caused by the war in Eastern Europe, both at the last Summit of the Americas held in The Angelsas in meetings he had with the Spanish president, Pedro Sanchezwith the French Emmanuel Macronand the German chancellor scholz during the last European tour. She will meet again with the latter during the G7 summit in Schloss Elmau (Germany), and the spokeswoman confirmed that she is working to confirm more meetings.
In Bavaria, the president will participate together with the heads of the Executives of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom as also head of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac). The leaders of India, Indonesia (host of the next G20 meeting), South Africa and Senegal will also be present.
Meanwhile, the head of state will deliver his message tomorrow at the summit of the bricks from the Presidential Residence in Olivos, accompanied by Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero. Fernández participates in the meeting thanks to the personal invitation made by the Chinese president Xi Jinping this year, within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations with China and while the Argentine president holds the pro-tempore presidency of CELAC. This meeting also implies a strategic step towards joining the group of strong geopolitical and economic weight that unites two of the great powers: China and Russia, with emerging countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
