“The Latvian Tennis Union has reached an agreement with the International Tennis Federation that this year the Liepaja International Women’s Tennis Tournament will be held in July without the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes,” the LTS said in a statement.
It was planned that the ITF tournament in Liepaja would be held in May. But due to the situation with Russian and Belarusian tennis players, they decided to postpone it. Now the competition is scheduled for July.
Recall that the organizers of Wimbledon suspended Russian and Belarusian tennis players from participating in the tournament due to the situation in Ukraine.
The ATP considered Wimbledon’s decision to undermine the principles and integrity of the association’s ranking system and stripped the UK Open of ranking points for 2022. The WTA and ITF followed suit.
Earlier, Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko said that she would not watch Wimbledon.
