Limburg United will not participate in the FIBA Europe Cup next season. The cup winner finds the costs disproportionate to the benefits.

Limburg United surprisingly won the Belgian Cup last season by beating Ostend in the final. The club was rewarded with a European ticket for this, but has now decided to refuse it.

“FIBA recently took the decision that Belgian teams are no longer certain of participating in the group stage of the Europe Cup, so that instead of direct qualification we first have to complete preliminary rounds before progressing to the group stage,” Limburg United said.

“In addition, the major financial effort that we have to make today in the aftermath of the corona pandemic does not outweigh the sporting reward. That is why we have taken the difficult decision not to participate in this European competition next season.”

“With Hubo Limburg United, we therefore want to focus on financial security in the long term and gradually continue to expand and grow our club.”
