Mexico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) asked the Jesuits to help find out the truth about the murder of two priests in Chihuahuaafter rectors and directors of the Jesuit University System charged that there is a Failed state.
According to the newspaper Reformin La Mañanera on June 23, 2022, AMLO stated that the Jesuits who live in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua they know well what happens there, so he suggested that they can help the authorities to investigate what happened.
“Yes, we are going to go to the bottom, let the whole truth be known and it is certain that the priests themselves, the Jesuits who lived there, the mothers, know everything and with great care can helpIn addition, they are missionaries, there are people who dedicate their lives to helping the most dispossessed, the abandoned, the weak. So it will help a lot for us to know everything,” AMLO said.
The federal president considered that José Portillo, alias “the crook“, allegedly responsible for the murder of the Jesuit priests in Cerocahuihave protection and arrangements to evade justice.
warned that it is “very suspicious” that “El Chueco” led such a “normal life” despite having a known criminal record, as he even sponsored a local baseball team and had arrest warrants against him.
“I was saying that it is necessary to investigate, because it is unacceptable and, furthermore, very suspicious that such a person would lead such a normal life. Because according to the report of the Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office he was a sponsor of a baseball teamwith the background that he already had and known throughout the region, with arrest warrants,” questioned the president.
“You have to see if there was no impunity, protection, arrangements, agreements, with whom?” AMLO insisted on “El Chueco.”
Although the bodies of the murdered priests and tour guide were found on Wednesday, June 22, in a town near Cerocahui, “El Chueco” remains a fugitive from justice.
In addition, the criminal leader kidnapped two baseball brothers in the same town before the triple homicide, who are still missing.
The Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office offered a reward of up to 5 million pesos to anyone who provides information leading to the capture of “El Chueco”, who has been linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
Jesuits denounce failed state

The academics reproached that, as president-elect, AMLO presented a pacification plan with nine prevention and peace-building measures, which has not produced results, since it was limited to the creation of the National Guard. “Today we have to say: that strategy failed,” accused the rector of the Universidad Iberoamericana de Puebla, Mario Patrón
