Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev spoke about the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne to return Maxim Agapitov the status of a candidate for the presidency of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

“This can be called the right precedent when CAS really shows itself as an independent body capable of making objective decisions. I am sure that Agapitov will have a good chance of being elected, we support him for our part, ”Then24 quotes Svishchev.
He stressed that CAS must continue to show its independence, despite the ongoing “anti-Russian hysteria.”
The court found that the IWF commission did not have the authority to prevent the nomination of candidates for the election of the president of an international organization from the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR). The IWF Election Congress is to be held on June 25-26.
Earlier, Svishchev reacted to the decision of Spartak not to boycott the match for the Russian Super Cup on football with Zenit in St. Petersburg.
