48 hours before the Government approves the new anti-crisis decree in an extraordinary Council of Ministers, Podemos assures that the “fastest and most effective” way to lower inflation is “peace in Ukraine”rejecting the “militarism” represented by NATO and the Alliance summit to be held next week in Madrid.
The spokesman for Podemos in Congress, Pablo Echenique, has confirmed that no minister from his party will attend the NATO summit – to be held on June 29 and 30 – because “there must be voices”, such as Ione Belarra’s, that “defend peace”.
“We are proud that Belarra and Podemos are saying that We must try to achieve peace as soon as possible”, Echenique stated this Thursday on TVE. “There are already analysts who say that Russia can endure sanctions indefinitely,” she added.

Thus, the leader of Podemos completely rejects a NATO summit in which “Spending on machine guns and bombs is going to increase” when what is necessary, as he explained, is to increase investment “in forest firefighters, doctors, nurses…”.
“It is a summit that we do not like it, I think it has become very clear”, he continued, to also confirm that several members of United We Can will attend the anti-NATO demonstration to be held this Sunday in Madrid.
On reduction of VAT on electricity from 10% to 5%, Echenique lowers expectations. “It is going to have a modest effect. It is a measure that the PSOE has proposed, which is not bad, but we think that not even remotely will it serve to contain inflation and to protect families”, he has said to bet on “peace” in Ukraine to achieve it.

Along these lines, Echenique has demanded that the socialist wing of the Government “make bolder measures” and increase taxes on electricity and oil companies looking “in the eyes of the powerful” to help not only families, but also so that “the progressive electorate is reflected in the coalition government.”

Peace will lower inflation
It will be this Saturday when the Council of Ministers meets in an extraordinary way to approve the anti-crisis decree, which could include new measures such as a 300-euro check for vulnerable families, the reduction of public transport and an extra tax on the benefit of energy. Both measures are proposals from United We Can.

“We are putting up a fight. We don’t go with red linesbut nobody would understand that while the electric and oil companies are making a fortune while people pay for the most expensive electricity and gasoline, we do not put an extraordinary tax on them”, Echenique has opined.
Hours away from the approval of this decree, from Podemos they believe that “the fastest and most efficient way to curbing inflation is peace” in Ukraine. While it arrives, the Government is looking for measures to reduce the strong impact of rising prices on the economy.
