The Italian Government reported this Thursday that it will accept digital certificates presented by Argentine citizens issued from April 2019 for the processing of citizenship of that countryafter the management made by Ambassador Roberto Carlés and the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro, with his Italian counterpart Luciana Lamorgese.
Through an official note, the Italian Foreign Ministry specified “to the Embassy of the Argentine Republic the content of the circular that the Italian Ministry of the Interior will send to the municipalities of this country, with the instructions to verify the validity of the digital certificates and of the electronic apostille issued by Argentine authorities,” Carlés stated on social networks, which will facilitate the procedure.
According to the ambassador, “in accordance with what was agreed at the meeting held on May 11, and in accordance with what was agreed upon by Minister Lamorgese and Minister De Pedro, the Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale (AGID) has evaluated the technical-legal aspects of the issue, raised by ANUSCA and by several municipalities, regarding the conformity of the Argentine digital acts with the provisions of article 23 of the Digital Administration Code”.
Thus, the AGID responded that “the Argentine minutes, in addition to being in line with the procedures for implementing the electronic apostille disseminated, as of 2006, among the signatory countries of the Hague Convention and with the normative provisions contained in the Law of November 22, 1988, No. 533, is consistent with the provisions in force on the matter and in particular with what is established by the aforementioned article 23”, remarked the Argentine ambassador.
In particular, with the new circular“Argentine minutes in pdf format and signed with a digital signature constitute an original document”. Therefore, Carlés explained, “civil records with electronic apostille issued after April 15, 2019 must be received.”
In any case, for those issued before that date, citizens “must request a new apostille, or certification of the validity of the certificates, from the corresponding Argentine consulate.”
The next step is for the Italian Ministry of the Interior to send the information to all the municipalities and, to avoid further delays, “Argentine citizens will be able to present this note to the municipalities in which the content of the the circle”.
