The directors of the establishment justified the teacher by saying that “he acted firmly and fairly when he saw that an act of school abuse was being committed.”

A teacher at the San Felipe 120 school in the Peruvian city of Piura, in the north of the country, was acquitted by educational authorities after assaulting a student who allegedly harassed his classmates.

Professor Daniel Mendiola was separated from the educational institution after videos in which he appeared went viral on social networks beating a student with a strap in front of the whole class. Despite this, Mendiola was acquitted by the authorities and he will be able to resume his work at the school, informs the Republic newspaper.

Mendiola justified his behavior as a defense and an act of justice towards another student who was being victim of ‘bullying’while expressing his fear of being fired or even arrested.

“I know they’re going to fire me, or maybe even take me to jail, but I already I couldn’t keep seeing such injustice, such abuse against a defenseless. I don’t regret anything,” he said.

After an investigation into the background that led the teacher to act in this way, the school authorities decided not to fire Mendiola. On the contrary, they decided to expel the minor beaten by the teacher, while offering psychological help to the student who had been the victim of bullying.

For his part, the teacher thanked the support of school directors and parents of students and assured that education is not only “filling notebooks”, but also teaching values.

“I thank the directors of this honorable institution for understanding my situation and doing justice, just as I did. May this remain as a precedent so that everyone knows that we can still change, that being a teacher is not only filling notebooks, but also teaching Y cultivate true values“Mendiola wrote on his social networks.

On the other hand, the directors of the establishment justified the teacher by saying that “acted firmly and fairly seeing that an act of bullying was being committed”, which is why they decided to expel the harassing student. “We will not tolerate acts of bullying or bullying between students,” they concluded.
