EsSalud warned that, according to its Office of Intelligence and Health Information, acute respiratory infections (ARI) have been increasing in recent months throughout the country, after the decline and sudden changes in temperaturesince from April to May the cases reported in the insured population have increased by 33%.

According to figures from It’s Healththis situation has worsened with the arrival of winter, since only in the first 11 days of June there have been 85,399 cases of acute respiratory infections, while in April they reached 113,640 and in May 151,231.

At the twenty-third epidemiological week (June 11), the office has reported 689,150 episodes of respiratory infectionswith a trend towards a sustained increase from the nineteenth epidemiological week (May 8-14).

Ended May, 33% more episodes of acute respiratory infections were recorded than those reported in the previous month.

More cases in Lima, Callao, Arequipa, La Libertad and Lambayeque

The statistics of It’s Health indicate that 50% of the episodes of acute respiratory infections reported are concentrated in the Sabogal network with 11.8%, followed by Rebagliati and Almenara with 9.6% each, Arequipa with 7.9%, La Libertad with 6.5% and Lambayeque with 6.4%.

By age groups, 47% of episodes of acute respiratory infections reported occurred in children (0-11 years), while adults represent 28% of cases, older adults 10%, young people 8% and adolescents 7%.

Acute respiratory infections are a group of diseases caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi, the most serious being pneumonia, which is the leading cause of death in children and older adults worldwide.
