Pyotr Kalmin, coach of two-time Russian weightlifting champion Ekaterina Katina, said that the athlete was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules.

“Ekaterina is disqualified for four years, she definitely will not return to the sport after the end of the disqualification. Katina stopped training immediately after her suspension. I don’t think she will appeal, everyone has long understood that it is useless. She was disqualified on the basis of some list of absolutely far-fetched things, ”Then24 quoted Kalmin as saying.

He considers this punishment unfair and unreasonable. According to him, Katina was very worried at first, but then she reconciled, as she realized that she did not have the opportunity to prove her innocence.

In 2021, the International Doping Testing Agency (ITA) opened a case against a Russian woman. The accusation was based on a report by Richard McLaren and an investigation by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) into systematic doping practices in Russian sports.

Katina’s suspension expires on April 13, 2025.

Earlier, CAS granted WADA’s appeal against the ICF decision and disqualified 2012 Olympic champion Alexander Dyachenko.
