A civil jury on Tuesday sentenced American actor Bill Cosby to pay $500,000 (€474,000) for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl at the Playboy Mansion in 1975.
Los Angeles County Jurors ruled in favor of Judy Huth, who is now 64 years old.
It was discovered that Bill Cosby intentionally provoked harmful sexual contact in Judy Huth, that the actor believed the victim was under 18 and that his conduct was motivated by an unnatural or abnormal sexual interest in a minor.
Today’s deliberation arises nearly a year after his criminal conviction in Pennsylvania for sexual assault was dropped and he was released.
The Judy Huth lawsuit was one of the last remaining legal claims against Bill Cosby after his insurer settled many cases against his will.
The actor did not appear at the trial or testify in person., but short video testimonies from 2015 were shown, in which he denied any contact with Judy Huth. Bill Cosby continues to deny the allegations.
Bill Cosby’s lawyers agreed that the artist met Judy Huth at a movie in Southern California in April 1975 and was taken to the Playboy Mansion a few days later.
Most jurors apparently agreed, giving Judy Huth a victory in a case that took eight years and overcame many obstacles to reach trial.
