“The race has always been one of the favorites for fans, drivers and teams. Melbourne is an incredible and dynamic international city, which is a perfect match for our sport,” explains F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali of the contract extension.

The Australian Grand Prix saw the light of day in Philipp Island in 1928, the GP has been held at 23 different locations throughout history.

Adelaide was the host from 1985 to 1995, and Melbourne has been the stage since 1996. Except for 2020 and 2021 – due to the corona pandemic – racing was held there every year.

Ever since Melbourne got on the World Cup calendar, it has been the habit of opening the season. With the exception of 2006, 2010 and 2022, when the World Cup started in Bahrain.

Sydney was eager to host the F1 circus, but Melbourne’s offer made it. In this agreement, the Albert Park, where more than 400,000 car enthusiasts attended the F1 weekend and saw Charles Leclerc triumph this year, will also be renovated.
